AstriCon is less than two weeks away!

By David Duffett

As the anticipation builds for yet another great AstriCon, we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure this is the best AstriCon yet!

The speakers are preparing great presentations and demos, and they will be looking for maximum interaction with those that attend their sessions – and there are so many great sessions to choose from. Just recently, I was chatting with someone who is coming to AstriCon and he told me that, for some sessions he wanted to attend, there was not one, but two other sessions running in parallel which he really wanted to go to as well! Fortunately, all the sessions are being recorded so you will be able to see the video of any sessions you miss, or – even better – bring colleagues with to to ensure you capture everything at the time. We have a special offer to help with that, it’s called the Diamond package – more details here.

Be sure to come to the opening reception of the exhibit area on the Tuesday evening, with drinks and nibbles provided, and if you’re a dCAP, we have something extra special for you, to show you how much we appreciate you going the extra mile to prove your Asterisk credentials.

The keynotes this year are phenomenal. On the Wednesday four community veterans (yes four! Mark Spencer, Philippe Lindheimer, Olle Johansson and Alistair Cunningham) will consider their times in the project, and think about the future too.

As well as visiting the many Asterisk-related businesses exhibiting at AstriCon, you (and a friend) will also be able to try your hands to become the Fastest Dudes to the Dialtone – by connecting the Digium phone on server ‘A’ to the Digium phone on server ‘B’ via a SIP (or IAX2) trunk. The twist is that you can choose to configure FreePBX distro, Elastix or regular Asterisk on each machine to achieve the goal. This is going to be your best chance of free iPADs all year!

Then there is the all-show-party, packed with games and amusements. There will even be a DJ, so some geek-dancing may be in order.

Thursdays keynote will see Phil Edholm (the man trusted by TMC to lead their WebRTC World events) will give us his insights into the way WebRTC will change our world, and the opportunities this presents for Asterisk people and companies.

And to close the show, the always appreiciated session where the core Asterisk developers give details of work completed and the great things to come.

In addition to all of the above, you’ll get to meet up with your Asterisk buddies and hangout with the cream of the Asterisk glitterati, like the lovely Allison Smith (THE voice of Asterisk), the evergreen (not sure what that means) Mark Spencer, wild Asterisk-related party starter Belief Mo (of OpenVox), and a whole host of others that you would definitely not get to meet in one place anywhere else in the world!

I can’t wait to see you there 🙂 If you have not yet got your AstriCon pass – do it now!
