Being an iCAM Recruiter at Digium: Meet Jaclyn Smith

Employee Spotlight

As part of our ongoing series, Get to Know Digium: Employee Spotlight, we ask employees to share with readers about their roles inside the company as Digiumites (our name for team members), as well as their life and interests outside of Digium. Meet one of our iCAM recruiters, Jaclyn Smith.

What first turned you on to working for Digium?

After many years working nights and weekends in retail, I decided to make a career change that would allow me to spend more time at home with my family. Little did I know that I would actually be gaining a wonderful new work family as well. I am truly blessed to work with such amazing people every single day.

Describe your roll at Digium.

I recruit and onboard Value Added Resellers (VARs) who are ready to expand their product offerings. As part of my role, I help position new channel partners for optimum success using sales tools, exclusive promotions, and other resources created for VARs, as part of Digium’s award-winning channel program.

What is the most satisfying thing about your job?

My job is most satisfying when I’m able to speak with potential partners who are actively growing their business and enthusiastic about offering a new product to their clients, and I can help them get started with Digium solutions.

When you were 10 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

From the time I was 10, even up into my early 20s, I wanted to live in New York City and become a Fashion Merchandise Buyer for the top retail stores in the market. I was able to visit the city many times throughout my 20-year retail career, I just never got up the nerve to relocate.
Jaclyn4Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

As a mother of three, ranging in age from 2 to 13, my passion is spending time with them and finding things to do that can keep them all entertained at the same time! This could include riding scooters and skateboards, going to sporting events, movies, hiking, swimming, 4-wheeling… the list goes on and on. All jokes aside, my biggest passion is raising my children in church and teaching them to put God first.

How do you get involved with your community? Are there any local groups or organizations you are involved with?

I am a cheerleading coach for my daughter’s team. This has allowed me to be on the field with the cheerleaders throughout the games and teach the girls teamwork, as well as help improve their skill level to get them prepared for school-level cheer in the years to come.

I’m also a part of the morning worship team through music at my church. Being able to sing on a weekly basis with a wonderful group of leaders has been such a terrific experience. This has been most rewarding for me as I see my children’s faces as they watch me up there every Sunday morning.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? What would you do within that week?

I would trade places with Ellen Degeneres! Ellen has fabulous hair, a unique sense of style, rhythm (which I most certainly do not have), a huge heart, and let’s not forget her sense of humor! I would simply use laughter to brighten people’s lives on a daily basis.

Jaclyn2What is one thing you can’t live without?

I was actually sitting on my couch at home thinking about this question when my 2-year-old son reached up and kissed me on the forehead and told me he loved me! That’s what I can’t live without- the unconditional love of my sweet babies. Nothing else in the world really matters after that.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

SWEATY CUPS……they get my hands wet and leave rings on my desk. I always wrap my drink with a napkin.

What is your favorite book and movie?

My favorite book is “Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks. I picked it up at the airport once after I ran out of reading material during my travel. I ended up reading the entire book. I couldn’t put it down. It also came out as a movie a couple of years later, so it is my favorite movie as well. It truly is an amazing love story.

What advice would you give someone entering the workforce today?

Do what you love. If you are able to do that, it doesn’t seem so much like work. Be YOU, be real, and be confident.

Would you like to give any shout outs to anyone?

I would like to give a shout out to my parents for teaching me how to work hard and provide for my family. Also, shout outs to a wonderful group of friends that have supported me and stood by me through lots of changes in my life (they know who they are!). Most importantly, my three children (Madison, Abi, and Jon-Michael). They are able to keep me grounded and teaching me things I never thought imaginable!
