Where in the World is David Duffett? Asterisk Community Director Gears up for Conference Season

By Julie Webb

The summertime marks conference season, and as the Worldwide Asterisk Community Director, David Duffett is a busy man. This past week David graced Digium headquarters as he mingled with developers, schmoozed with the Marketing department, and of course, got a lot of work done. David and I streamed our first Facebook Live session discussing all things AstriCon, and finalized some last minute AstriCon to-do’s.

Leading up to AstriCon at the end of September, David will be traveling the globe and attending some pretty exciting events in the open source/Asterisk community. Here’s what he’ll be up to:

ClueCon – August 8-12 – Chicago

David will be alongside Digium’s Engineering Manager, Matthew Fredrickson, and CTO, Matt Jordan, at this year’s ClueCon. Founded in 2005 by a team of Asterisk software developers, ClueCon is a conference “for developers, by developers,” and aims to bring all of the open source projects to one place to gather and make Open Source Telephony a disruptive force in the industry.

Matthew Fredrickson is a ClueCon speaker this year and will discuss and demonstrate some up and coming features in Asterisk 14 that will allow Asterisk to publish extension/device state to an external presence server, such as Kamailio.

The Asterisk Advanced training is a five-day hands-on course that covers the knowledge and skills an advancing Asterisk administrator should know to be effective at his or her job. David will provide a combination of both lectures and labs designed to give the students both the theory behind the concepts and the hands-on experience to be able to effectively deploy Asterisk-based solutions.

Following the Asterisk Advanced class, the Digium-Certified Asterisk Professional (dCAP) certification exam will be offered. Visit Digium’s training page for more information and to view the course schedule.

Next on David’s agenda is AsterConference, the first ever conference series in Asia dedicated to Asterisk. Digium is an official sponsor of this event, which brings together developers, executives, decision makers, system integrators, solution providers and existing users to learn, explore and discover the potential and benefits of Asterisk.

Both David and Greg Vance, Digium’s Sales Manager, will be speaking at the conference. Greg Vance will discuss Asterisk and VoIP solutions, and David will share his speech titled “Asterisk: A story of hope, encouragement, and growth.”

David0610th Anniversary Asterisk Lounge meeting – September 5th – Tokyo, Japan

From Indonesia to Japan! David will join Denphone, a Digium registered reseller serving the Japanese market, for the monthly VoIP & Asterisk Lounge meeting. This special 10th anniversary of the gathering serves as a chance for Asterisk and VoIP enthusiasts to get together and discuss topics of interest in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. After this, David heads back to the states for *drum roll*…..

AstriCon! – September 26-29 – Glendale, AZ

David will be concluding his global Asterisk advocacy with the longest-running event devoted to all things Asterisk- the AstriCon Conference & Expo. Asterisk integrators and business end-users can expect to hear the latest Asterisk news and project updates, gain access to in-depth technical sessions, participate in networking opportunities, meet potential collaborators, and review and discuss detailed case studies of Asterisk projects.
