Why Getting Trained on What’s in your Data Center is Worthwhile

You just got a new communications product that’s either physically in your data center or in a data center someplace else servicing your business. You’re thinking – I just bought this product (say a Unified Communication system or an SBC, for example). I did research on it. I know what it does. I bought it since it fits my needs. I know what it does. I don’t need training on it. I’ll just read the instructions.

Now the sales guy is asking about training. And you don’t have time for that. And besides, I just spent some money with them so why give them more. Why should I get trained? It’s just a waste of time. I can just read the manual.

Well, those are natural thoughts for sure. But they are short-sighted thoughts as well. I’ve seen this a lot. Let me just highlight some reasons why attending training will make full sense to you. And you’ll be glad you went.

It’s really all about fully understanding the product. Even though you read the spec sheet, and you read reviews, and you talked to the company ahead of time, and you feel like you know what it does, it’s likely training will enrich your experience with that product.

Here are some key reasons why training will benefit you:

  • I bet it does things you didn’t know about. And finding out about those things will help you save money later because you understand this.
  • It will enable you to do what you want to do with the system faster. This will save you time and money later.
  • You will learn how to tune the dashboard, etc. for how you want to see certain results.
  • Related to the above, it will give you tools to do your job better. You will be able to see the results, or indicators you want to see. You’ll look better to your bosses.
  • You will be able to talk to the vendor about features you’d like to see. Having an opportunity to interact with key members of the company is important not only because you can find out but about the product but you also tell them what you think about future features!
