Simitel, winner of the Intel award for a competitive Mexico

Simitel is a developer of IP contact center software for SMEs/SMBs headquartered in Mexico City, with customers in Latin America, the USA and Europe. Founded in 2001, Simitel quickly established itself as the leading provider of VoiceXML-based speech recognition solutions in Mexico. Witnessing the explosive growth of the domestic contact center market, the company embarked on the development of a portfolio of specialized software modules designed to bring low-cost, best-of-class contact center capabilities to any SME/SMB owning a CTI-ready PBX. Strongly committed to open standard architectures, Simitel decided in 2003 after an extensive evaluation of various platforms, to integrate its Java-based ACD and outbound dialer modules with Asterisk. The open source Linux PBX together with telephony hardware from Digium has been instrumental in allowing Simitel to tackle projects as varied as a distributed prepaid VoIP contact center, an international shared access gateway to voice-activated services and an Intelligent Building multi-tenant application. However, Simitel's crown jewel is IceCAP (IP Call Automation Platform), a ground-breaking Linux-based hosted IP contact center solution that won in 2004 the Intel prize for a competitive Mexico. This prestigious award was handed to Simitel by Craig Barrett, CEO of Intel, after a thorough competitive review of the IceCAP project conducted by Intel Capital, the Mexican national science and technology council (CONACYT), the TEC de Monterrey University and the Mexican Ministry of the Economy. The originality of IceCAP resides in the merger of open source software such as Asterisk with proven commercial contact center modules developed by Simitel, offered on an ASP basis to SMEs/SMBs via an Internet or dedicated IP connection. This on-demand service is ideal for businesses who want to establish a professional contact center while avoiding up-front equipment costs, maintenance, upgrades and painfully slow roll-out usually associated with proprietary on-premises platforms. IP service providers in Mexico have shown tremendous interest in IceCAP, which is presently being installed in their SIP-based VoIP networks prior to customer trials due to happen during the first half of 2005. Simitel offers a compelling business model to service providers and VARs alike to accelerate the deployment of IceCAP. The company will open a US office shortly to begin serving prospective clients in this market. As Craig Barrett wisely stated, "to develop competitiveness, any country requires an educational and physical infrastructure to be available, but today, additionally, knowledge and technology infrastructures are needed too". Simitel is proud to spear-head the development of IP contact center software in Mexico and foster the adoption of this cost-effective technology domestically and abroad. The role of Asterisk in Simitel's success cannot be overstated. Open source telephony software is promised to a bright future and will boot-strap more innovative projects like IceCAP throughout the world, supporting the vision of industry leaders like Intel to bring computing and communication to any business and person around the globe.
