Digium® Achieves ISO 9001 Certification for Product Quality

Company’s VoIP and unified communication hardware and Asterisk®-based appliances meet all ISO standards

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—April 27, 2009Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, today announced that it has earned ISO 9001 certification for the quality management system governing Digium’s telephony products. The certification process, which included close collaboration with Digium’s supplier partners, spanned one year and yielded a quality management system that complements Digium’s culture of creative innovation. The result for customers is world-class telephony product quality combined with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of open source.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer and publisher of international standards. Digium worked closely with its registrar, AQA International, to audit and improve processes and demonstrate continual quality improvement of products such as Digium telephony interface boards, Switchvox and Asterisk appliances. As a result, Digium has met all requirements leading to registration of its quality management system to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

“We marked a major milestone in our continual improvement journey a year ago with the release of the Digium Exceptional Satisfaction Program, a 100 percent satisfaction, no-risk guarantee on many of our products,” said Danny Windham, CEO of Digium. “We’ve since developed and implemented a quality system that combines a philosophy of designing in quality from the beginning with an extensive focus on monitoring, measurement and failure analysis, to ensure each Digium product meets or exceeds our customers’ demanding expectations. ISO 9001 certification further reinforces Digium’s commitment to providing our customers with world- class telephony solutions based on open source software.”

Digium’s quality and operations teams also worked with the company’s supplier partners to install monitoring and measuring systems, upgrade manufacturing line equipment and expand test coverage. This led to a significant increase in manufacturing yield and a marked reduction in customer returns.

“Our supplier partners stepped up to improve their manufacturing performance—new equipment, additional test coverage, and identification and elimination of process defects dramatically improved Digium’s overall product quality,” said Steve Burcham, director of quality at Digium. “The key to our overall success has been the close teamwork between operations, engineering and technical support teams and the extended team members at our supplier partners. Daily attention to detail ensures that our products meet or exceed our customers’ expectations; in short, we have ‘zero tolerance’ for product defects.”
