Digium and snom technology AG enter into strategic partnership

snom Becomes a Member of Digium's Partner Program

BERLIN/HUNTSVILLE, AL — May — Digium®, Inc., the creator of Asterisk® and pioneer of open source telephony, and snom, a leading German manufacturer of VoIP phones, announced today that snom has become a Digium Premier Interoperability Partner.

The snom VoIP phones, snom 360 and snom 320, have successfully completed interoperability validation with Digium's Asterisk Business Edition. snom's SIP-based family of IP telephones are engineered and suitably priced to serve small, medium and large enterprises in a broad range of business contexts. Easy to install and configure, snom IP phones provide simplified access to the rich feature sets of Asterisk IP PBX.

"By partnering with innovative companies like snom, we can offer the business community more options and features when building high-end telephony systems based on Asterisk," said Jim Webster, director of Software Technologies at Digium. "We look forward to working together with snom to expand the VoIP market and at the same time communicate the important role open source will play in the telecom market."

Summing up the advantages for snom/Asterisk users, snom's sales and marketing director Dr. Michael Knieling adds, "For many people, it is nothing new that snom VoIP phones are compatible with Asterisk, but now it has been officially proved. Through our partnership with Digium, we are able to use synergies in order to offer Asterisk customers more features, productivity and efficiency. What is more, it is a pleasure to work with Digium to promote interoperability and communicate the benefits of open source in the VoIP market".

Digium created its Asterisk Partner Program in response to the growing ecosystem of Asterisk and the demand for open source-based telephony platforms. The Digium/Asterisk Partner Program includes three different types of partnerships: Asterisk Products and Solution Partners, Asterisk Service Partners, and Asterisk Interoperability Partners. Digium works with its partners to provide complete solutions for every type of customer need.

About Digium
Digium is the creator and primary developer of Asterisk, the industry's first Open Source PBX and Asterisk Business Edition, the professional-grade version of Asterisk. Used in combination with Digium's PCI telephony interface cards, Asterisk offers a strategic, highly cost-effective approach to voice and data transport over IP, TDM, switched and Ethernet architectures.

Digium solutions reduce the costs of traditional TDM and VoIP implementations through open source, standards-based software and innovative hardware solutions, including legacy PBX, IVR, auto attendant, and next generation gateways, media servers, and application servers. Digium hardware supports traditional voice and data protocols, and packet protocols such as IAX™ (Inter-Asterisk eXchange), and SIP VoIP.

Digium provides a highly refined selection of quality hardware and software products, developed and implemented using innovative engineering techniques (primarily open source development). A full range of professional services complement these product lines, including consulting, technical support, and customer software development services. The open source communications revolution is here, and Digium is leading the way.

About Asterisk
Code for Asterisk, originally written by Mark Spencer of Digium Inc., has been contributed from open source software engineers around the world. It supports a wide range of TDM protocols for the handling and transmission of voice over traditional telephony interfaces. It also supports US and European standard signaling types used in standard business phone systems, allowing it to bridge between next-generation voice-data integrated networks and existing infrastructure. Using the IAX Voice over IP protocol, Asterisk merges voice and data traffic seamlessly across disparate networks. Asterisk is available as open source under the GPL, and from Digium in the professional Asterisk Business Edition package, or under commercial license terms.
