Networking Visionary to Keynote AstriCon 2011
Jack Waters to Discuss Rise of Media-Enabled Public Networks and Impact on Bandwidth, Offer Insight into IP Networking Solutions
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., September 22, 2011 — Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, today announced that Jack Waters, president of Global Network Services and chief technology officer of Level 3 Communications, will deliver a keynote presentation at the eighth annual AstriCon Open Source Telephony Conference and Exhibition 2011, the longest running conference devoted to the Asterisk communications platform. Waters' keynote, scheduled for Thursday, October 27 at 9 a.m. MT, will focus on the rise of media-enabled public networks and the impact this growth has on network bandwidth. This year's event will be held October 25-27, 2011, in Denver, Colo., bringing together the world's open source enthusiasts-from code developers and Asterisk integrators to service providers and enterprise IT professionals-who share an interest in Asterisk, the world's most widely used open source telephony software.
Waters has extensive background in network architecture, design and implementation. In his current role, Waters is responsible for service activation and management, planning and deployment, access management and field operations across the company. Level 3 Communications achieved numerous milestones in IP communications under Waters' visionary leadership, including multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) and advanced optical networking.
"The networking industry continues to evolve at an impressive rate as voice, video and data converge across networks," said Bryan M. Johns, community director at Digium. "As an expert in the IP networking industry, Jack will provide a unique look at media-enabled networks and their impact on network bandwidth, and will offer guidance on how organizations can leverage open solutions to take advantage of media-enabled networks. We're looking forward to the insight Jack can provide as the world gathers for AstriCon to exchange ideas and to further open source development."
AstriCon 2011 will include expert presentations and breakout sessions on topics such as IPv6, Asterisk SCF, VoIP security, cloud computing and more. Additional information and registration are available at www.astricon.net.
