Open Source Luminary to Keynote AstriCon 2011
Marten Mickos to Outline How Large Enterprises are Driving Open Source Adoption, How the Traditional Software Stack is Changing and Key Drivers of Cloud Computing
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., - July 19, 2011 — Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, today announced that Marten Mickos, CEO of Eucalyptus Systems and former CEO of MySQL AB, will deliver the keynote presentation at the eighth annual AstriCon Open Source Telephony Conference and Exhibition 2011, the longest running conference devoted to the Asterisk communications platform. Mickos' keynote will focus on the shift from traditional software stacks to the growth of open source cloud computing in the enterprise, highlighting key drivers such as agility, scalability and cost. This year's event will be held October 25-27, 2011, in Denver, Colo. and brings together the world's open source enthusiasts, from code developers and Asterisk integrators to service providers and enterprise IT professionals who share an interest in Asterisk, the world's most widely used open source telephony software.
Mickos is a proven technology leader who, as CEO of MySQL AB for seven years, took the company from start-up to the second largest open source company in the world. MySQL was acquired by Sun Microsystems for one billion dollars and Mickos then held a leadership position in Sun's database group. Most recently, Mickos was named CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, the company behind Eucalyptus, the most widely deployed open source software platform for on-premise Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) clouds.
"We are thrilled to welcome Mårten to this year's AstriCon and look forward to hearing his insights when it comes to cloud computing and the impact that open source has on enterprises of all sizes throughout the world," said Bryan M. Johns, community director at Digium. "We are in the midst of an exciting time of growth for open source, which includes the new Asterisk SCF project designed to simplify the creation of complex communications systems. As the world gathers for AstriCon and a great exchange of ideas, we're looking forward to Mårten bringing his intimate knowledge of the open source landscape and sharing his understanding of the many benefits and drivers of cutting-edge technologies in the enterprise."
AstriCon 2011 will include expert presentations and breakout sessions on topics such as IPv6, Asterisk SCF, VoIP security, cloud computing and more. Additional information and open registration are available at www.astricon.net.
