Trademark Licensing Program FAQs
The Trademark Licensing Program is an opportunity for individuals and companies who don’t have a business partnership with Digium, but who use or work with Asterisk, to license the ASTERISK word mark and/or Asterisk Speech Bubble in order to promote their product and/or services.
The Asterisk Speech Bubble and the ASTERISK word mark. For persons interested in a business opportunity with Digium these trademarks and others may also be available for license under an applicable partner agreement such as the Digium Channel Partner, Digium Training Partner, and Digium Certification Partner Program. Prior to any such usage being authorized a signed partner agreement must be obtained.
Anytime you wish to use a Digium trademark in a manner which is not allowed by fair use. For details on what is considered Fair Use see section VI of our trademark policy. A trademark license may only be obtained via a signed license with Digium.
If you have a signed license you may include the following statement in a footer. “The trademark ASTERISK [and/or as applicable] is used under license from Digium.”
We do not license trademarks in URLs, domains, company names, product names, or service names. We do not license our trademarks for purposes of promoting forks of Asterisk or for projects which don’t nurture the Asterisk open source project. Phone, gateway, appliance, and telephony card providers are not eligible for a trademark license. If under a current Product Certification Agreement with Digium these providers may be offered trademark licenses under these programs to indicate their product and/or service is interoperable with Asterisk. Providers who wish to modify and redistribute Asterisk in binary form may inquire about a commercial software license which may also allow rights to use the ASTERISK word mark and Asterisk Speech Bubble. We do not allow licenses for variations of our trademarks or usages of our trademarks in a manner which disparages Digium.
We offer both a Commercial and a Noncommercial Trademark License. If your usage of the Asterisk Speech Bubble Logo or ASTERISK word mark is exclusively used for an open source, noncommercial Asterisk project then you may be a candidate for a Noncommercial Trademark License under which no fees would be paid. For additional detail regarding this option please see the section of our trademark policy titled Trademark License Agreement for Open Source Noncommercial Usage of Asterisk. If your usage of the Asterisk Speech Bubble logo or ASTERISK word mark is used for a commercial Asterisk project then you may be a candidate for a Commercial Trademark License. For additional detail regarding this option please see the section of our trademark policy titled Trademark License Agreement for Open Source Commercial Usage of Asterisk.
